Mountaineering in Zermatt

The top ridge of Breithorn counts 5 different peaks over 4000 meters. Roccia Nera, Breithornzwillinge, Breithorn East, Central and West.

Dufourspitze, 4634m, in the Monte Rosa area, is the highest mountain in Switzerland and the second-highest in the Alps.

The Lyskamm is one of the big four thousand meter peaks in the Monte Rosa area. The 2 km long traverse is one of the most famous snow ridge of the Alps. Connecting the two peaks of Lyskamm with an exposed ridge this route require good phisical shape and previous experience in mountaineering.

Hike from the exit of the Sunnegga funicular around the five lakes, past the restaurants, and down to the town center of Zermatt.

Schwarzhorn and Ludwigshohe are two nice small peaks in the Monte Rosa range. Thanks to the their proximity, and their short access from the Lys Glacier, they are easy to combine in a day tour.

Castore is the finer and higher among the two Twins Pollux and Castore. It is a really nice snow peak on the boarder ridge between Italy and Switzerland. From the Felik Pass, that is very easy to reach from the Q. Sella hut, a nice and curvy ridge goes to the top.

Two trails, flower trail and 5 lakes trail. Medium difficulty in some areas, easy in others. Great views! Also got to see Edelweiss! (However very hard to find). From sunnegga it’s a complete loup about 15 km long! It took us about 6 hours as we are stopping a lot to take pictures.

Highest non Alpine tour

Spaghetti Traverse is an impressive but quite challenging high-speed climbing tour, on which 20+ 4,000 m peaks can be climbed.

Trip to the west Breithorn summit from Zermatt.

A beautiful hike. We were rushed at the end to make the last lift down. The terrain is moon-like and beautiful. There were good views between the clouds of the Matterhorn. You really see the effects of global warming as the glaciers are receding fast.
