Mountaineering in Bosnia and Herzegovina

It's an easy hike on a forest road to the lodge at Stanari.

The walk requires a high level of fitness to cover 18-19 km and climb 1700 MASL. In addition, one part of the way -- a via ferrata -- is technically demanding.

This is a great mountain hike through pristine nature over Lelija and Zelengora that includes three summits and and five lakes.

A nice trail over the attractive ridge of Drstva and Vito descending to mountain hut Tusila. It continues to Puzim pinnacle and joins a new trail through the forest to Ljuta river.  

Good hiking with great views on Cvrsnica Mountain and Blidinje lake to the east, Ljubusa and Duvanjsko field to the west, and Radusa in the northwest.

Highlights definetely are Dinara, Crnopac, Paklenica, Velebit, Samarske Stijene and Risnjak. This is the route I hiked. Yes, I skipped some parts of the original Via Dinarica hiking trail and choose to walk the bikingroutes instead.

Great hiking adventure on Velež mountain!

This is a rather strenuous round walk which requires a high level of fitness. You will cover over 20 km and climb over 1300m in altitude.

This trip to the highest peak of Mt Dinara, Troglav (1913 MASL), starts in Livno. It is possible to leave your vehicle in the village of Salkovac if the path is blocked because of snow - during certain times of year, caution is advised due to the risk of avalanches. The route starts in the forest.

Demanding walk, both technically and in terms of fitness requirements. Not recommended for walkers with no rock-climbing experience.

A very nice walk along one of the most beautiful ridges in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is not suitable for person who are afraid of heights as the ridge is rather steep in several places. Excellent view of the mountains Treskavica and Bjelašnica, and the canyon of the Rakitnica.

It is a nice short walk along a short but quite attractive feratta route. The rock offers beautiful view encompassing Romanija to the east, Bukovik to the north and the city of Sarajevo.

From the hiking perspective, the most attractive and the most natural route of Via Dinarica is the one that continues along the elevated zone of Troglav and Kamešnica to the southeast, right after crossing the peak of Dinara.

It is a pleasant route, with short but rather attractive feratta. View from the rock is beautiful and it encompasses Romanija to the east, Bukovik to the north and the city of Sarajevo.
