Mountain biking trails in Richmondshire

This route has some steep hills to climb – and descend – on good tracks, with stunning views and a few challenging sections to keep you on your toes. Distance: 15.8km (9.8 miles) Total climb: 500m (1,640ft) Time: 1hr30 to 3hrs

A pleasant introduction to the Swaledale Valley, exploring the lower slopes, with some remote riding and good views, before returning along the valley bottom.Distance: 18.5km (11.5 miles).Climbing: 445m (1,460ft).Time: 1hr to 2hrs.

A big ride out into the stunning Yorkshire Dales, with a bit of everything, including some superb technical trails and stunning views.

A superb route exploring both sides of the valley. This ride offers a great sense of adventure, superb views and a fun mix of trails, without ever being too risky. There are plenty of bail-out options too.Distance: 27.1km (16.8 miles).Total climb: 850m (2,789ft).Time: 2hrs to 4hrs.

A pretty big, remote ride across some exposed moors, with no facilities en route, so it’s best to tackle it on a good day and go prepped with food and drink. Happily, the trails are pretty weather-resistant.

Big-country riding, with some hard grassy trails to contend with but awesome views along the quiet and remote tracks. The ground needs to be dry to enjoy this route because sections can get boggy.Distance: 44.4km (27.6 miles). Total climb: 1,300m (4,265ft).Total time: 4hrs to 7hrs.

A tough ride from the off, with a climb up Fremington Edge followed by a technical downhill. This format is repeated three times for an excellent and varied ride that works in all weathers.Distance: 31.8km (19.8 miles).Total climb: 1,175m (3,855ft).Time: 2hrs 30mins to 5hrs.
