Tips for beginners and returners
If you are a beginner or a returning rider, there are a few things you should consider to really enjoy your time on the road.
- Don't plan too long routes. Concentration and fitness need to be built up first.
- Don't take the most demanding, winding routes, but approach them slowly.
- For trips lasting several days, short to medium daily stages are ideal. Don't take on too much at once: Plan rest days for day trips without luggage or complete rest days.
- Low traffic density in the destination country and avoiding large cities will help you build up your fitness, concentration and confidence in your own riding skills.
The equipment for a motorbike route varies greatly depending on the length of the tour, the destination and your own preferences. However, there are a few things you should never do without, such as your motorbike, your helmet and safety clothing suitable for motorcycling. Your papers (identity card, driving licence, vehicle documents, if necessary the relevant papers for abroad) should also always be taken with you. In addition, a second pair of gloves, rain gear, high-visibility waistcoat, sunscreen and a camera should be included in your luggage. If you are planning a longer motorbike trip, it is advisable to make a packing list so that you don't forget anything. But remember: every item that you don't absolutely need only takes up unnecessary space, and you can get a lot of things on the way if necessary.
Before a route, you should always have your motorbike checked: oil levels, brake fluid and coolant, tyre tread and air pressure are just a few aspects that should be right for every route.
