Section 1 of the Sultans Trail passes through Lower Austria. After rounding the Braunsberg in the Danube bent near Hainburg, it sets off for Bratislava castle. The trail leaves the Vienna area at a wild overpass in Schwechat, to continue through the countryside, following the Leitha river and the Danube to Bratislava.
Medieval towns, Roman remains, wind turbines, vineyards, and beaver mark this section.

The SNP is a famous and challenging route in Slovakia. It has a long historic backround and its importance in WWII is a source of pride and identity. Someone who walks the SNP often receives the respect of local people and is greeted with a smile and thumb up.
In the East the path starts at the Dukla Pass on the border to Poland traverses different mountain ranges with the highest peaks in the Lower Tatras and ends at the border with Austria in Devin just West of the capital Bratislava.
