The section of the Northern Alps Long Distance Trail through Styria leads from Spital am Semmering to Ausseerland in Altaussee. The Rax, Hochschwab, Gesäuse and the Tote Gebirge are just a few of the alpine highlights along the tour. Those interested in culture will enjoy the Admont Abbey with the largest abbey library in the world.

Like the great Alpenbogen, the diverse landscapes of the Viennese Alps string together. A “small Alpenbogen” with fabulous views fans out. The gentle hills of Bucklige Welt, the mountain meadows of Wechsel (also known as Schwaigen), Semmering – home to the Semmering Railway, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site –, the Schneeberg and Rax mountain ranges with peaks reaching over 2000m, and the gentle ascents of the Gutenstein Alps.

The highlights of this tour range from crossing the highest elevation on the eastern edge of the Alps, the Stuhleck, to crossing Austria's largest contiguous forest area, Peter Rosegger's forest home in the Fischbacher Alps. Also crossing a unique alpine pasture area around Teichalm and Sommeralm, to crossing the Niedere Tauern on the Schladminger Tauern Höhenweg. Attention: The section through the Bärenschützklamm ravine is closed due to a rockfall! The ravine can be bypassed via the hiking trail leading north of it, from the restaurant Zum guten Hirten to Mautstatt.

Diese landschaftlich einmalige Mehrtagestour beginnt in der Steiermark, im alpinen Naturpark Mürzer Oberland, überquert die Fischbacher Alpen und endet vor den Toren der ungarischen Tiefebene, im malerischen kleinen Städtchten Köszeg / Güns. Sicher eine der abwechslungsreichsten Wanderungen im Ostalpenraum.

Eine 2 - Tagestour über die höchsten Gipfel und zu den wunderschön gelegenen Almen sowie Berghütten im Naturpark Mürzer Oberland in der Hochsteiermark. Die Hütten erwarten alle hungrigen Wanderer zusätzlich mit ausgesuchten kulinarischen Spezialitäten, vom heimischen Wildbret über Bio - Käse bis zum süßen "Windberg".

Der ÖAV Sektion Gebirgsverein hat vor einiger Zeit eine Dreitagestour, ausgehend von Hinternasswald, über die Schneealm und Rax unter dem Titel "Weg der Sonne" ausgearbeitet. Hier gibt es nun die steirische Variante im Naturpark Mürzer Oberland in der Hochsteiermark, wobei sich zahlreiche Wegeabschnitte überschneiden.
