Long-distance hikes in the Palatine Uplands and Donnersberg

The Vier-Länder-Weg from Donnersberg to Wertheim is a varied long-distance hiking trail through the regions of Rheinhessen, Bergstra;e and Odenwald, the four federal states of Rhineland-Palatinate, Hessen, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg as well as the three wine-growing regions of Rheinhessen, Bergstra;e and Franconia. 

The European Long Distance Trail E8 runs from Dursey Head in Ireland across the sea to England and then crosses the European mainland almost diagonally to the Polish-Ukrainian border. It currently measures around 4390 km and is to be extended to the Black Sea in the future. In Germany, we walk along the E8 from the Dutch border near Nijmegen to Oberkappel in the German-Austrian border region.

This eventful route takes us from the Saarland through the Palatinate Forest, the Ried and the Odenwald to the Main. The individual stages can be quite hilly, which we should always keep in mind when planning the respective daily routes.

The nature reserve "Mittagsfels" with its unusual flora (for example,   the pasque flower) and its fantastic panoramic views overlooks the Steinalptal near   Niederalben. Just to be up here is well worth doing the 2nd stage of the   Veldenz-Wanderweg.  Another highlight of this tour is a visit to the historic oil mill of St. Julian, a true gem in the history of handicrafts – visits by appointment.  

Wandermusikanten - ein ehemaliger Berufszweig  im Westen der Pfalz. Entlang des „Pfälzer Musikantenweges“ lernt man das Leben und Wirken der Wandermusikanten kennen.

A 46 km long hiking trail in the heart of the Palatinate Highlands, which is very well suited as a single or multi-day tour.  From Kusel parking 1,5 km – Trail Marking: White "R" on a yellow background = feeder path to Winter helle. From Winterhelle 38.3 km – Trail Marking: White "R" on a blue background - main trail with access to the "Pfälzer Höhenweg". It joins the Pfälzer Höhenweg in Rothselberg   which then takes you about 4 km to Wolfstein.  

The last stage of the Pfälzer Höhenweg trail leads from Lauterecken via Lohnweiler through the shady forests of the Königsberg massif to Wolfstein. The 21km route includes the romantic castle ruins at Altwolfstein and Neuwolfstein.

In the middle of the Pfälzerwald Nature Park, the largest contiguous forest area in Germany, we hike from the Donnersberg to the border with France.

From the Bastenhaus hotel we continue up to the highest village in the Palatinate, Ruppertsecken, and enjoy a wonderful view of the region. We then descend to our end destination of Rockenhausen.

At only 12.5km, the fifth stage is the shortest section of the Pfälzer Höhenweg trail. From Obermoschel we hike over the Kahlforst hill to Callbach and on to the historical old city of Meisenheim.
