ViewRanger Legacy Maps

If you made one-off payments to access maps within ViewRanger, we offer free access to a set of maps via the Outdooractive app and website. The maps we offer depend on the region of the maps you made one-off payments for in ViewRanger. The maps are from the same map data provider or from an alternative map data provider depending on the map region.

Availability - Functionality

Once you accept the Legacy map agreement the maps will be available in the map layer panel at the lower right of the map.

If you are using the app, make sure you have updated and synced your account to ensure the maps are visible in the map layer panel.

There is a limit to how far you can zoom out when viewing Legacy maps. This means if you select a Legacy map when you are zoomed out too far, or not above the area covered by the selected Legacy map, the map will appear white. To avoid this, use the OpenStreetMap to find the area that relates to the Legacy map you wish to view and zoom in before selecting the Legacy map.

Note: There is also a limit to how far you can zoom in when viewing Legacy maps.

Map tiles

With Outdooractive we offer whole countries or suppliers, there are no tiles or pre-named areas. There is also no list of your previously saved ViewRanger maps. In the Outdooractive app, you can save rectangles of the map to use offline, as you might have done with ViewRanger's maps like Landscape.

On the app's main map tab, use the down arrow, top right, next to the search box. That gives an adjustable box, which you can size to about 40km across. You can save multiple boxes. Both 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 are saved, so no need to worry about seeing 1:25,000 on-screen before saving.

The Outdooractive topo map layer is our global map that incorporates all of the best topographic maps we have available. The maps are seamlessly integrated at all zoom levels and allow you to view highly detailed topographic maps in most countries around the world.

Europe

Great Britain: if you currently have access to OS map tiles in England, Scotland, or Wales, you will have access to 1:50,000 and 1:25,000 OS maps across Great Britain. If you currently have access to maps from Harvey Maps, you will have access to all Harvey Maps currently published within the Outdooractive platform.
Northern Ireland: if you currently have access to OSNI map tiles, you will have access to 1:50,000 OSNI maps across Northern Ireland, also select areas at 1:25,000.
Republic of Ireland: if you currently have access to Ordnance Survey Ireland map tiles, you will have access to 1:50,000 OS Ireland maps.
France: if you currently have access to IGN map tiles in France, you will have access to 1:25,000 and 1:100,000 scale IGN maps across France.
Italy: If you currently have access to maps from 4Land, Edizioni il Lupo, Fraternali Editore, Geo4Map, InfoCartoGrafica, SER, Global Map, Kompass, or Monti Editore, you will have access to all that publisher’s maps that are available within the Outdooractive platform.
Netherlands: If you currently have access to map tiles from PDOK, you will have access to 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 scale maps from PDOK across the Netherlands.
Denmark: if you currently have access to Kortforsyningen map tiles in Denmark you will have access to 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 scale maps across Denmark from Kortforsyningen, the Danish Geodata Agency.
Finland: If you currently have access to Maanmittauslaitos map tiles, you will have access to 1:20,000 and 1:50,000 scale across Finland from Maanmittauslaitos.
Norway: If you currently have access to Kartverket map tiles, you will have access to 1:50,000 scale maps across Norway from Kartverket.
Sweden: If you currently have access to Lantmateriet map tiles, you will have access to 1:50,000 scale Lantmateriet maps across Sweden.
Germany: If you currently have access to BKG map tiles, you will have access to 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 scale maps across Germany from BKG.
Austria: If you currently have access to Kompass map tiles in Austria, you will have access to 1:50,000 scale maps across Austria from Kompass.
Slovakia: Maps from DPA are not available in Outdooractive. You will have access to the OSM Slovakia map.
Czech Republic: Maps from DPA are not available in Outdooractive. You will have access to OSM Czech map.
Switzerland: If you currently have access to SwissTopo map tiles, you will have access to 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 scale SwissTopo maps across Switzerland.
Greece: if you currently have access to any Terrain or any Anavasi maps in Greece you will have access to all the Anavasi maps available in the Outdooractive platform.
Spain: If you currently have access to CNIG map tiles, you will have access to CNIG 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 scale map tiles across Spain.
Slovenia: If you currently have access to map tiles from VisionMap, you will have access to VisionMap maps across Slovenia.
Discovery Walking Guides: If you currently have access to a DWG map, you will have access to DWG maps, including some of the Canary Islands, Madeira, and Malta, available within the Outdooractive platform.

North America

USA: If you currently have access to map tiles from USGS or Accuterra, you will have access to USGS maps across the USA. Accuterra maps are not available in the Outdooractive platform.
Canada: If you currently have access to map tiles from NRCan, you will have access to NRCan maps across Canada.

Australia / New Zealand

New Zealand: if you currently have access to LINZ map tiles in New Zealand you will have access to 1:50,000 scale LINZ maps across New Zealand.
Australia: Only a regional map of New South Wales was sold outside of a subscription. Users who purchased that map will have access to that map in the Outdooractive platform.
