The Outdooractive App and the most important things you need to know when using it
The Outdooractive app is available to download free of charge in the App Store, Google Play Store, and the Huawei AppGallery. This overview aims to help you familiarize yourself with its layout and main features.
The start screen
The map is the heart of Outdooractive. For this reason, the app also starts with the map view:

1. Search bar:
The search bar can be used to locate content on our platform. You can input keywords to locate places, regions, mountain peaks, accommodation, and more. These can be displayed both as a list and directly on the map. You will be prompted with the options to 'Start plan here', 'Route to here', or 'Create new Point', you can click anywhere on the map to close these options.
2. Hamburger menu:
The hamburger menu takes you directly to the various content categories on Outdooractive, which you can find under "Routes & Places". The menu also takes you to Current Conditions, Collections, Offers, and Outdooractive Challenges, for example. The menu item "Settings" can also be found here, where you can, for example, manage your offline content, adjust your privacy settings, and create links to partners such as Garmin.
3. Compass:
At the top left of the map, you'll find the compass. Once you tap on it, the map will align itself to the north again - if you have turned it before. If the GPS is active and the map is aligned to the north, the compass opens in full screen and shows the current exact location (with different coordinate systems), as well as the altitude. You can copy and share this location data.
4. Map lock:
Use the padlock icon below the compass to 'lock' the map. Tapping this icon will disable the touch screen and prevent unwanted interference. Tap it again to reactivate the touch screen.
Map lock will also deactivate auto-timeout. This can be useful when tracking or 'finding the current position' (target symbol at the bottom left of the map).
5. Offline storage:
As a Pro or Pro+ member, you can save routes and maps offline, you can access your content at any time without requiring mobile data or an internet connection.
6. Show content/hide content:
Here you can see all content on the map that is available in the map section - whether routes, places to visit, accommodations or events. Use the filter to get even more precise results.
7. Tap Zooming:
In addition to zooming with two fingers, you can also zoom in on the map with just one finger: Tap the map twice in quick succession. If you swipe upwards directly afterward, the map zooms out. If you swipe down after the double tap, the map zooms in.
8. More functions:
Use the round button with the three dots to access further functions.
Audio guide: Discover fascinating local history and find out more about the region and its points of interest on your route.
My Map: My Map allows you to save and display custom content like routes, points of interest, and destinations. When you add content to your My Map it is displayed here, you can 'Enable My Map' to show all of your chosen content on the map.
Skyline: Skyline uses the camera on your phone or tablet to show you the names of peaks, cities, lakes, cliffs, ridges, mountain passes, and even glaciers up to 30 km away.
BuddyBeacon: Share your live location with family and friends.
9. Maps and layers selection:
Tap the stack of three-squares icon at the bottom right of the screen to open the 'Map layer panel'. The selection of maps and layers that you have here will depend on your subscription. You can choose a basic map, a map style (summer, winter or satellite view) an activity network and various additional map layers (slope, photos, notices & closures, avalanche situation, webcams). So you have the possibility to choose the right map with the right additional layers for every occasion.
10. Location:
If you have activated the GPS on your smartphone, tapping on the location button will automatically display your current location centered on the map. Tapping it again zooms in on your current location on the map, as well as tracking your position if you are moving. With the third tap, the map is aligned in the direction of view. If you tap it again, it will be deactivated.
11. Main menu
The main menu is located below the map and consists of the following 5 menu items:
