Rank and TOP label
What do we need a Rank for?
Every day countless content is created on the Outdooractive platform. To ensure that we give priority to the best recommendations and display them at the top of the search results, we rate content on a scale from 0 to 100.
In doing so, we rely on an algorithm that evaluates various technical factors. The more user-friendly and informative the content, the higher the rank.
Factors which are evaluated
-
the number of description fields filled in and the text length contained in them
-
the amount of detail given (e.g. difficulty, technique, fitness, landscape and experience)
-
the availability of information for travel (e.g. public transport)
-
the number of images and videos uploaded to the media gallery
The Power of the Community
Why does newly created content have a relatively low rank despite being almost perfect?
Even a completely filled out description cannot reach a rank of 100 without feedback from the community. This ensures that content with a high rank is not only described in great detail but is also recommendable in the real world.
The rank of newly created content automatically improves when community members interact with it - i.e.: share, comment, rate, download, etc. Each community member can rate content once and award between one and five stars. The number and average rating level are important for the rank.
The TOP label
We reward informative content! Routes described in great detail, with a ranking of at least 65 points receive the top label.
This helps them to achieve a prominent position in our huge partner network and in our apps. In short: Quality is rewarded with higher visibility and reach.
Tips for a great route
- Edit GPX tracks: If you have recorded your route with your GPS device and load the track into our platform, you are not quite finished yet. It is better if you also adapt the track to the trail network on the map and edit the trail types. This will make the route easier to understand for all users.
- Always enter the way back: Often, for routes with identical outward and return tracks, only the outward track is entered. However, all route details such as distance, altitude difference and duration of the trip should refer to the complete route. In order not to give other users a false impression of the difficulty and character of the route, you should definitely enter the return route as well.
- Meaningful title: It is best to give your route a meaningful title, not just " Route planned on xx.yy.zz". This will make it easier for other outdoor enthusiasts to find your route. A combination of geographical location and destination of the route is always a good idea. The name of the route can also be used as a title.
- Always add a picture: Meaningful pictures say more than words and express the atmosphere on a route. In addition, pictures give a first impression of what the route is really like and help in the search for a suitable route.
- Fill in all fields: Basically all text fields should be filled in. Only comprehensive and completely described routes offer other users the best of your route. Well-filled route descriptions are also better found by search engines and our filtering function.
