The history of the Norwegian Cadastral and Land Registry Authority (Kartverket) goes back to 1773. It has always had national responsibility for geographical information, the national property register and all property registration in Norway.
The tasks of the Norwegian mapping authority Kartverket include the collection, systematisation, management and communication of public geographical information. Specifically, Kartverket is responsible for surveying, geodesy, hydrography, cadastre and cartography in Norway.
