Identify Peaks, Lakes and Places with Skyline Augmented Reality
Skyline uses the camera on your phone or tablet to show you the names of peaks, cities, lakes, cliffs, ridges, mountain passes and even glaciers up to 30 km away.
How Skyline works
Activate Skyline by selecting the More button at the bottom right of the map and then selecting "Skyline". Your cell phone camera will then activate to enable you to see names of all the peaks, lakes and much more in your area.
You can capture Skyline views you like by selecting the camera icon at the bottom right of the screen and then show them to your friends using the “Share” icon in the bottom right of the capture itself. These recordings are saved in the library of your smartphone.
With the help of the content button above the camera, you can choose what exactly you want to be displayed: mountain peaks, bodies of water and / or locations.
The "X" at the bottom left of the screen ends the function.
If the display is not accurate
The compass and GPS on the device are used to display the names of peaks, lakes and much more. The compass has an accuracy of plus/ minus 3 degrees.
There should be no metallic or electrical devices (e.g. keys, cars, ...) in the vicinity while using Skyline and you should be outdoors.
If you get inaccurate results, you should calibrate your smartphone by moving your smartphone in a figure of eight along its axes in as many directions as possible, because the sensor must be guided by the earth's magnetic field in as many directions as possible. Repeat this process several times until you get the desired result.
If the calibration alone does not achieve the desired accuracy, closing and restarting the skyline before calibration may help.
The compass should be calibrated regularly.
I am in an elevated building with a view and can see peaks, places or water in the distance, but they are not labelled
The app does not recognize that you are above ground level. From the ground you might not be able to see the summit, the place or the water.
Good to know
Skyline can identify points on 80% of the earth's land mass in most countries of the world (except in the polar region).
The skyline details are downloaded along with the offline storage of tours or maps, so the feature can be used offline without mobile data.
The magnetic closures of mobile phone cases have a negative effect on the compass of your smartphone. To use Skyline, you should take it out of the magnetic cover for one or two days and then calibrate it.
