Alpbeiz Lütholdsmatt, 1,147 m
Serviced Hut
· Emmental Alps
This alp restaurant serves typical Swiss delicacies, and is the perfect meeting point for hikers, mountain bikers and people seeking to take things easy. Offering wonderful panoramic views, it's open from the beginning of May to the end of October. It's also accessible by car and acts as a springboard for hikes in the Pilatus region.
The name Lütholdsmatt is said to derive from the hard life led by herdsmen: lîden and dolen (leiden and dulden = suffering and enduring). Tradition has it that a ghost sometimes appears on the Oberstafel Tumli in the early morning dressed in shorts, a red waistcoat and a top hat. It lets out a whoop then disappears.
