Easy paths take us to the crystal clear Consolation Lakes 3 km away.
The Consolation Lakes 3 km southeast of Moraine Lake are accessible on an easy and flat trail within an hour. Therefore many tourists gather around the well-maintained paths. Who is looking for the calmness of nature around the lakes should get up early in the morning. The crystal clear waters, surrounded by a magnificent glacier panorama, are a real must for every tourists and an extremely popular photo spot.
The Upper Consolation Lake, which is not visible from the lower lake, but can be reached via a short walk on marked trails. The trail to Upper Consolation Lake however, can be very tedious because you have to walk over large boulders and rubble fields.
The trailhead of this fairly easy hike is directly at the Moraine Lake car park. We follow the signs for 3 km in direction of the Consolation Lakes. The trail winds uphill through dense evergreen forest, and after an hour we are already on the shores of Lower Consolation Lake. Like the Upper Consolation Lake, it is crystal clear and offers fantastic views of Mount Quadra Glacier. Located on the western shores of the two lakes many large boulders cover the area - witnesses of several landslides at Mount Babel. Those who wish can continue on large boulders and scree debris to Upper Consolation Lake. The trail is not very well marked and is therefore much more demanding than the previous section. We then return the same way back.
