I didn't mind walking on the bike path as we had read the other reviews so we were mentally ready and there were some good views, it was our last day on trail, and it was fast walking.
On the map when you leave town the trail does some squiggly weird turns and loops down a busy road of a steep hill with a barely shoulder to walk on. We noticed there's a little direct staircase down the middle of them to avoid the street. To simplify and stay safe we just stayed on the bike path as we left the center of town and when you get to a huge bike junction, you turn right to go over a big bridge with a great alpine view and then reconnect with the trail/bike path before the train station.
You should know that just pass the border the map shows a nice lake that looks perfect for lunch. Unfortunately, it is dried out with no shade. We walked back to town and reconnected with the trail and found a nice shady spot to rest just past the Mercato store. There is a bench built around a big tree that was perfect.
