With only 160 square kilometres and about 38,500 inhabitants, Liechtenstein is the sixth smallest country in the world. As the only state located entirely in the Alps, it is nevertheless packed with sights, numerous opportunities for outdoor activities and the special charm of a country where people know each other well.
The dense, 400-kilometre network of hiking trails in particular delights visitors to the Fürstentum between ÖAustria and Switzerland. Both in summer and autumn, hiking is a popular activity for locals and visitors alike. But sports such as trail running, cycling or mountain biking are also unforgettable experiences thanks to the varied landscape in Liechtenstein.
>Long-distance hike along the Liechtenstein Panorama Trail
If you want to take on a real challenge in this small principality, we recommend a multi-day tour along the Liechtenstein Panorama Trail. On the way from the holiday resort of Malbun to Ruggell in the Rhine Valley, you will experience the most beautiful sides of the dwarf state on three to four day stages and over almost 45 kilometres. Lush meadows, airy mountain peaks, breathtaking views and cosy huts are the hallmarks of hiking on the Panorama Trail. Hiking experience and good physical condition are a must for these hiking tours.
Let's start in Malbun on the Fürstin Gina Trail, which takes you to the Pfälzerhütte. You can spend the night there and start the second stage of the Panorama Trail freshly rested the next day. This takes you from Steg to Gafadurah. On the way, hikers who are free from giddiness and sure-footed will take the path via the Fürstensteig and the Three Sisters. You will experience a unique path carved into the rock and can admire the bizarre rock formations. The third stage is characterised by a densely wooded descent from the Gafadurah to Ruggell. Through fairytale-like forests you reach the destination of your hiking tours of the last few days - Ruggell.

Cosy hiking trails in Liechtenstein
If you don't want to climb too high, Liechtenstein also offers a variety of smaller and easier hikes. The Philosopher's Path Triesenberg, for example, is a popular circular hike that takes you into the fascinating Walser cultural landscape. The tour begins in Rizlina and takes you via the small Walser settlement of Masescha, over Vorder- and Hinter-Prufatscheng to a vantage point with a fantastic view over the Rhine Valley.
Followed by a mountain path to Gaflei, from where you have a fantastic view over the valley. From here you return to Gnalp and from there to the starting point in Rizlina. On your way, you will not only experience the impressive landscape, but you will also have the opportunity to stop off again and again and fortify yourself for your hikes with the regional cuisine of the inns. All in all, you will cover a good twelve kilometres on this leisurely tour and should allow at least four and a half hours for this.
This hike on the Philosophers' Trail leads along natural paths through the rich landscape traditionally home to the Walser people and their culture ...
