Hikes in the Mittlerer Erzgebirgskreis

This short tour takes you south of the Zschopau over hill and dale, past witnesses of medieval mining and along the Zschopau.

A wealth of wood and skilled craftsmanship. Even today, Erzgebirge folk and wood art is world-famous. Born out of necessity, the families of the miners once made wooden toys as a sideline in winter. The third stage takes us to nutcrackers and smoking men - to curious places and wonderful views.

Treasures to be discovered! The mountain church of Seiffen is a wonderful treasure. And thanks to the industrious toy makers who have recreated it a million times over, the little church is known almost on every continent.  The museum ensemble "Saigerhütte" is also of very special value; it has been part of the "UNESCO World Heritage Mining Region Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří" since 2019.

Von der Papiermühle in Blauenthal und dem Wasserfall steigen wir auf zum Wanderweg "Wildes Erzgebirge" der uns nach Eibenstock führt und im großen Bogen über  Sosa zurück.

"S' kimmt wies kimmt!" It comes as it comes - or as we plan it. You should definitely plan the Kammweg so that you are on your way from Satzung to Bärenstein at the weekend. Because the Pressnitztalbahn then takes us from Schmalzgrube to Jöhstadt at full steam. It's a great experience on the train, but of course also on foot, when the steam locomotive puffs past you through the valley.

Hiking territory for explorers! Geology is boring? Far from it! If you walk along the Kammweg, you will always be surrounded by interesting geological phenomena. At Hirtstein you will even find one of the most fascinating natural monuments in Europe: the basalt fan. This phenomenon is solidified lava that flowed out millions of years ago and solidified into a fan.

Ein künstlich angelegter See mit einem Stauraum von 6,5 Millionen Kubikmetern Wasser thront über den umliegenden Ortschaften - das Oberbecken des Pumpspeicherkraftwerkes Markersbach. Der 14 km lange, landschaftlich eindrucksvolle Rundweg, führt uns von Pöhla auf die Dammkrone des Oberbeckens. Von hier aus bietet sich ein herrlicher Blick über weite Teile des westlichen Erzgebirges.

Uphill, downhill - experiencing the flow of hiking. The state of being completely absorbed in an activity, where the sense of time is largely lost, is called flow experience. Today, on the Kammweg, we forget time and space. We hike the 20 kilometres and 700 metres in altitude from Johanngeorgenstadt to Weitersglashütte completely in the flow.
