Hikes in Echternach

Exciting hiking trails await you around Echternach, through mighty sandstone rock landscapes. The network of hiking trails covers 92 kilometres and offers you varied hiking pleasure in the medium and difficult segment. Hiking on the Mullerthal Trail

Echternach is the starting point of several varied hikes that lead through the bizarrely beautiful Mullerthal. Here you will discover the breathtaking rock kingdom of Luxembourg's Little Switzerland at first hand and immerse yourself in a mystical world of rocks, caves and forest trees, where forest spirits, trolls and elves seem to live. At every turn, you will be enchanted by the fantastic geological formations, which promise you new adventures on the hiking trails again and again.

One of the walks takes you past the impressive Wollefsschlucht (Wolf Gorge) and the Hohllay Hollow (Huel Lee) with its mysterious system of tunnels where the Romans used to mine sandstone. Mainly, millstones were made from the rock. Another highlight is the natural amphitheatre, which offers special acoustics.

A little off the beaten track, a 10-kilometre-long tour of spectacular rock formations and breathtaking natural scenery winds its way around the rock world near Berdorf. In the midst of a fragrant pine forest, you can hike up a ladder to a wonderful vantage point that rewards you with a beautiful panoramic view of the valley of the Sauer. Finally, you will find yourself in a rock labyrinth and in the Mandrack Passage, where a narrow crevice may challenge you.

In addition to extensive walks through the picturesque rocky landscape around Echternach, Lake Echternach offers a whole range of varied leisure activities for the whole family. For example, you can hire a pedal boat in the so-called "Meer van Echternach" and explore the lake from the water. There is also the possibility of stand-up paddling. Fishing enthusiasts also get their money's worth here. There is also a bicycle hire service so that you can comfortably cycle the 3.7 kilometre long circular route around the lake on two wheels. There are also barbecue areas, a fitness trail and a dexterity course, and the little ones can let off steam on the playground and trampolines.
