Die Überschreitung des Ball Passes ist ein absolutes Touren-Highlight in Neuseeland. Die Route ist selbst in der Hauptsaison sehr einsam und führt in unmittelbarer Nähe des Mt. Cooks an dessen gewaltiger Südwand vorbei. Ich unternahm sie im Februar 2010 alleine an einem Tag. Dies ist allerdings sehr anstrengend, dies sollten sich nur sehr konditionsstarke Wanderer vornehmen.  Ich empfehle, sich für die Tour  2 Tage Zeit zu lassen, dies ist auch der übliche Zeitrahmen. Die folgende Beschreibung geben also die Verhältnisse und Wegführung vom Februar 2010 wieder. Die angegebenen Gehzeiten sind ebenfalls meine, Mein Gehtempo war normal, bin weder gebummelt noch gerannt. Pausen sind in den Zeiten enthalten.

An out and back track to Hooker Lake providing magnificent views of Aoraki/Mount Cook

After a short transfer to Buntings Gulley begin walking through the bush and beech forest, with river views below and of the distant snow-covered mountains. Hike up to Skull Peak and spot dolphins in the bay if you are lucky.

Upon arrival drive slightly further north of Arthur's Pass Village to the beginning of the Bealey Valley Track, a short walk that will take you through mountain beech forest and to the base of Mount Rolleston.

An up and down walk today with marvellous views at the top.
