Attractions in Maramureș
Maramureș is located in the northwest of Romania on the border with Ukraine and is surrounded by mountains higher than 2,000 meters. This region is rich in wild animals like bears, black goats or lynxes and many other natural treasures.
To protect the diversity of the region, two national parks have been established: the Rodnei Mountain National Park and the Maramureș Mountain National Park, which is also the largest nature park in the country.
As nature perfectly blends in with the traditions and craftsmanship of the place, you will discover the art of woodworking, which the locals have been practicing for centuries and which is also reflected in the many wooden churches that have made Maramureș so famous. Eight of them have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Both the picturesque landscapes and the villages, as well as the unique traditions and popular costumes make Maramureș the perfect choice for a traditional holiday in this dreamland.
