Cross-country skiing is Norway's national sport: the world's first cross-country competitions took place here as early as 1843. With its deep snow-covered forests, untouched landscapes and absolute snow reliability, Norway is made for extended tours on narrow boards. Backcountry cross-country skiing off the groomed trails is also popular.
The largest cross-country skiing regions in Norway are Oslo and Sjusjøen-Lillehammer, but the ski resorts of Geilo and Trysil also have many trails.
