Northern Mariana Islands

This is the kind of stopover that you should always include during a round-the-world trip. The Mariana Islands, which are still not very much on the main tourist routes, are havens of peace. Their beaches are worthy of tropical fantasy and the water is warm and clear.

Attractions on the Northern Mariana Islands

These islands also have a large number of natural parks where exotic fauna thrives: monkeys, reptiles, birds... With a very cosmopolitan community, a real local craft industry and a beautiful joie de vivre, the archipelago has no difficulty in making people forget the scars of the past. After the scenes of war against the Japanese, they are now the first to come and taste the sand and the pleasures of these corners of paradise.

While the Northern Mariana Islands consist of a total of 15 islands, the most popular are Saipan, Tinian and Rota. Start on the sand, including the immaculate white sand from Micro Beach to Saipan, which is as popular with the local population as it is with tourists. Then head to the countless other places with tropical settings and their wide range of activities. If you have a spirit of adventure, you can still dive from a cliff, dive in caves or dive at night.

The resorts and country clubs of the Northern Mariana Islands are more than just seaside resorts: they represent the starting point for the region's outdoor activities and urban life. Resorts organize hikes in hidden villages, banana boat rides and cliff fishing activities. Take a windsurfing trip or work on your swing on one of the golf courses.

The historical past of the Islands, and in particular the indigenous culture of the Chamorro people, is still very present wherever you go. Archaeological sites, prehistoric megaliths and small villages will introduce you to this people, its past and present. The San Vicente Fiesta and San Antonio Festival spring and summer festivals will introduce you to Chamorro and Carolinian cuisine, dance and music.

History buffs will have the opportunity to see beautifully preserved buildings and posts from the Second World War in the Northern Mariana Islands, such as a Japanese lighthouse, bunkers, prisons and an abandoned airfield. The Banzai and Suicide Cliffs are a poignant testimony to the character of the Chamorro people.
