The country in the Bay of Bengal is characterised by extensive marshlands and mangrove forests – called “Sundarbans“ – in the deltas of the Ganges, Meghna and Brahmaputra. In the southeast, the Chittagong Hill Tracts are the only real mountain range in the country. The capital Dhaka is one of the fastest growing cities in the world, but from a tourist point of view Bangladesh is still off the mainstream. As Bangladesh lies in the area of influence of the monsoon, which brings considerable rainfall and floods, the best time to travel is between October and February.
