The Kingdom of Bahrain is a small island state in the Persian Gulf. A special highlight for those interested in culture are the more than 170,000 prehistoric burial sites, which bear witness to an ancient history of civilisation, as well as the excavation site Qal'at al-Bahrain. In Muharraq, it is worth visiting the old town, where there are numerous historical buildings in addition to the important Araq Fort. The capital Manama is a successful contrast between modern skyscrapers, traditional temples, mosques and the trading quarters called “souqs“.
