The Antarctic continent extends around the geographic South Pole. While the interior is dominated by the largest ice desert on earth, enormous table ice mountains and impressive cliffs mark the transition to the sea. The remoteness, harsh climate and sparse infrastructure make Antarctica a region little developed for tourism. The offer is mainly limited to cruises and expeditions for extreme athletes. However, motorized trips over the ice, sightseeing flights and tours to observe penguins, whales and seals in their natural habitat are becoming increasingly popular.
