A mattress in the trunk or a fully integrated motorhome? (or perhaps the decision is already made when looking into the wallet). While young people succeed in traveling on a low budget, professional motorhome camping can definitely be described as a luxury treat.
Our tip: start small and increase slowly. You have to find the desired level of comfort yourself – but you should never lose contact with nature because that’s what camping is all about. For your first trip, it’s best to rent a vehicle and slowly get to grips with the material.

If you have a special destination and would like to make day trips from there, a caravan model is ideal. You can park it at the campsite of your choice and create a temporary home away from home. With the uncoupled car you are then maximally flexible during the day.
If you want to change your overnight stay constantly, a campervan is better suited. These are available in many different sizes and variants – from the converted VW bus to the American “motorhome“.
Where to stay overnight
Spending the night anywhere you want – that sounds great in theory. However, You cannot just park up anywhere and spend the night. Please inform yourself in advance about suitable parking spaces for your vehicle.
Often you will have to decide between a campsite and a pitch. A campsite is an all-inclusive variant with electricity and water connection, sanitary facilities, shopping facilities and much more. Pitches are much less providing and offer only the bare essentials – but also at a much lower price or even for free.
Wild camping is nowadays forbidden by law in many travel countries. A major exception is Scandinavia, where the so-called “Everyman’s Right“ permits overnight camping in the great outdoors. However, it goes without saying that you do not leave any traces at the place where you spend the night.
