Bicycle tours in Spitz

The Danube Cycle Route takes us in eight days from the three-river city of Passau to the Austrian capital Vienna, for which we should take an extra day. Plenty of cultural and geological highlights await us along the way.

From the foot of the Melk Abbey Rock through the Danube meadow, vineyards and apricot orchards via Spitz and Weißenkirchen in the Wachau valley to the blue church tower of Dürnstein and the plain of Loiben to Krems on the Danube.

From Grein, the most important town in the Strudengau to Persenbeug and through the Nibelungengau to Melk and further along the right bank of the Danube to Arnsdorf and by ferry to Spitz.

The Danube Cycle Route Passau Vienna runs through the Upper Danube Valley, the Eferding Basin, the Machland, the Strudengau, the Nibelungengau, the Wachau and the Tullnerfeld to the Vienna Gate.

From Spitz on the Danube it goes via St. Michael through the historic Thal Wachau communities to Dürnstein and in Stein on the Danube to Mautern, Traismauer and Tulln, all 3 cities with strong Roman roots.

From Donauplatzl in Oberarnsdorf by ferry to Spitz on the Danube, continue on the left bank to Weißenkirchen in the Wachau valley and by ferry back to the right bank to St. Lorenz.

Through the enchanted garden to a romantic landscape The tour takes you via the Danube Bike Path from the Danube town of Emmersdorf through the Wachau, a landscape shaped by human hand, and beyond to Krems, a statutory city on the Danube, i.e. it has the authority of both a city and a district. On your ride through the Wachau, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape, you pass through Aggsbach, Spitz and Weissenkirchen, among other towns, before arriving at your destination: Krems, a center of commerce and culture.   IMPORTANT NOTE: From February 2020 until the end of 2021, the Danube Cycle Trail will be diverted in the Höhe Ringstraße area of Krems, due to necessary pipeline works. Please follow the diversion signposts in the Krems city area. Due to construction works on the bridge between Mautern and Stein (the Mauterner Brücke), there will be restrictions for cyclists, starting immediately! We recommend allowing enough time to cross the Danube elsewhere.

Diese Fernradreise führt aus meiner Heimatregion Reutlingen auf dem Neckartalradweg am Neckar hinauf bis zur Quelle, hinüber zur Brigach (ca. 2 Km) und nach Donaueschingen. Von dort geht es auf dem Donauradweg die Donau entlang hinunter. Bisher bin ich in einzelnen Etappen bis Budapest gekommen. Diese Radreise plane ich aber weiter fortzusetzen. Dann erfolgt eine Aktualisierung.
