Mount Sherman, Colorado’s 46th highest peak, is a great first 14er. It is possible to park as high as 12,000 feet, leaving only a couple thousand feet of elevation gain to the summit and a round-trip hike of under five miles.

The fifth highest peak in Colorado, La Plata (14,336 feet) is one of the few where the trailhead is accessible by paved road and offers a unique mountaineering treat.

Mt Elbert is the highest peak in the 3,000 mile long Rocky Mountains, a mountain chain which stretches from Canada to Mexico. Mount Elbert is also the second highest peak in the contiguous lower 48 states after 14,505-foot Mount Whitney in California.

North Mount Elbert Trail is a 10.3 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Twin Lakes, Colorado that features a river and is rated as difficult. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from May until October. Dogs and horses are also able to use this trail.

Start point is the Elbert Creek parking. From here you take the trail through the forest. Some steep straight parts to go. After leaving the forest you will continue through the tundra landscape. The trail remains steep. When you have reached the hill with boulder you should keep following the trail that passes it to the right. Alternatively climb the field and go back to the trail on the top. After this you will have to climb a false summit. Once on this summit you can see a big cairn on the next hill. Once you have reached that the real summit is not far away anymore.

Bartlett Gulch Loop Trail is a 4.2 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Twin Lakes, Colorado that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from June until October.

Map is for orientation. Some paths are not possible to connect, so hard to say exact numbers.  Also I hitched from Twin Lakes to lake (which is 21 km after), from where I hiked, so the amount of kilometres should be minus 21. But as connections on maps are not accurate, maybe I did even more. Some places might be not so accurate and will try to improve it later.  You can also check other trails in my profile. I did also sidetrip to Uncompaghre from Lake City and went to Sneffels after Durango.
