Start the hike in Sinagoga, walk up the small road and turn right on the paved path after +/- 200 metres. The path serves as a shortcut to gain height faster than on the road. Later the path ends at the same road again, walk up on the road until the end. Follow the path through Chã de Furnas, shortly after the last houses the path turns left and it follows a steep ascent to the crest. The path continues on the crest until the Pau Seco summit, offering breathtaking views over the Paul Valley. After the summit follow the path, for the first 10 minutes the path is rather difficult to identify. Than the quality improves and the path cannot be missed any more until you reach an unpaved road which will be followed to the left until the first houses of Ciano Village (Lombo Branco)
Follow the road until you find a gap between two houses on the right side, this is the trailhead to the path that, paved with concrete for some hundred metres, leads you in a wide circle to a crest. Follow the path on the crest until a very steep descent that ends directly beside the small road in Sinagoga where we started the hike.
Alternatively, to avoid the steep descent, you can walk all the way from Ciano village to Sinagoga on the small unpaved road.
Count with 6 hours walking time for the whole trip. This is a challenging hike that includes overall 1000 m of ascent and descent. Wear sturdy footwear and take enough food and at least 3 litres os water with you.
